Four Paws Up! Mayberry Homes/Extreme Makeover Home Edition-Michigan Build

As volunteers worked feverishly yesterday to complete the Extreme Makeover Home Edition Michigan build and turn over the keys to the design team, I talked to Karen Schroeder. She and husband Bob own Mayberry Homes, builders of the beautiful new home. (That's Karen being interviewed by local media lower left).

At this point in the week, Schroeder was understandably tired, running on adrenaline and contagious spirit.  (Before this week began, this mom had just seen her daughter get married after months of planning!).  Schroeder is now rightfully proud of what her employees, and many in the community, have successfully completed in just seven days.

Surprisingly, Schroeder claims she had never seen Extreme Makeover Home Edition and thought it was a joke when the call from the popular program was made to her office. It was no quick sell. The experienced, successful builders did their homework, asking tough questions about the major project before finally agreeing to take it on. Shroeder calls the experience life changing, one neither she nor her employees will ever forget.

Like all the other amazing volunteers on the build, Mayberry Home employees donated their time and critical expertise.  In short, these guys and gals aren't getting paid for endless hours on the job, at least, not in dollars, not even in these tough economic times. The pride, great stories and experiences they will now take into future projects will no doubt prove priceless.

My granddoggies Griff and Zelda give four paws up to Karen and Bob Schroeder and all the terrific employees at Mayberry Homes, for saying yes to this huge undertaking! What a great example you are to the community and beyond.

Bravo!

You can bet Karen Shroeder will be watching Extreme Makeover Home edition now.  Right after she gets some much-needed and well-deserved sleep.

As one of the volunteers on the Holt, Michigan project for over 4 days...it was the greatest experience I have ever had in my life and I hope that I get the opportunity to work on another project in the near future. By the middle of day 3 for me (35 hours later) I will admit I was very exhausted but the spirit and determination by all (design team and volunteers kept me going) - MY HARD HAT GOES OFF TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU - THANK YOU!!!
